Parks & Recreation Department

Lowe Park Arts and Environment CenterProgress' Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for 16 city parks, Shady Willows Cemetery, Smith Park, Rattiington Pool, and the Rogers Hiking-Biking Trail.

The department also provides an array of recreational and cultural opportunities throughout the year for all age groups. Each year, typically in early spring, a brochure of programs and activities is published and distributed throughout the community.  In addition, the Parks & Recreation Department administers the local Adopt-A-Tree program.

Parks and Recreation is located at 563 8th Street, and can be reached by calling (972) 555-8956. Ron Gantry is the director of this department which is governed by the Park Board.

Volunteers Needed!

We need volunteers of all ages. You do not need to be a family member to volunteer. The success of many of our programs is due to volunteer coaches. If you would like to play a very important role in a youth sports program please contact Jennifer at (972) 555-8657.

Other volunteers, including groups, are also needed to help care for gardens or perform other service projects. If you are interested, or just want to know what's available, contact Director Ron Gantry at (972) 555-8956.

Financial Assistance

The Progress Parks and Recreation Department wants to assure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in all of our programs. Eligibility is based on the following: you must be a Progress resident. You will need to bring copies of your last pay stubs and previous year's Federal Income Tax Form. Assistance will be granted on the basis of the financial need. There is also a form in the office which must be completed. It can take up to 3 days to complete the entire process.

Insurance

Progress Parks and Recreation does not provide individual accident liability insurance.
